Model train comments and suggestions for the modeltrainbuilder website

Model train comments is a page for readers participation. It is my strong desire to make Model Train Builder a community website. I hope you will consider sending any comments, modeling tips, experiences, or how-to articles on any model building subject to this site. My experience has been confined to HO gauge and over the years I have certainly relied heavily on the advice of the multitude of proficient modelers in this field. And yet, there is still much that I learn daily from others about my chosen scale. The desire and ability to share information among model railroaders is one of the major attractions of this rewarding hobby.

No matter which scale you model, there are many who would love to hear your model train comments, tips, and suggestions. Did you find a simple solution to a difficult modeling project? Have you designed a special construction jig or template that speeds up production? Have you discovered a product that you really love (or dislike)? Share your experiences here and I will be happy to publish all railroad-related topics on this page.

Model Train Comments, tips, and Questions

Question

I have a small toy circus sound module that uses 3 1.5V Alkaline Button Cell batteries. How can I wire it to electricity rather than use the batteries? Can I use a Train Transformer (what size) or an AC adapter (what size? Thanks for you help. Dennis

Answer If your batteries are in series they will be configured + to -, + to - and will result in a total voltage output of 4.5 volts applied to the sound module. If they are wired in parallel, they will be configured + to + , + to + and - to -, - to - and result in an output voltage of 1.5 volts. If possible, use a meter to check voltage-if not examine the batteries visually and determine what power adapter you will need. For 4.5 volt adapter check Radio Shack site at:http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2818335For 1.5 volt adapter go to:http://www.summitsource.com/15-volt-power-supply-universal-ac-dc-transformer-switchable-adapter-300ma-4-multiplug-magnavox-m62061-voltage-reducer-led-battery-part-m62061-p-6867.htmlI hope this answers your question. Please let me know how you make out.

Your website is a blessing. I have been collecting Lionel & MTH 3 rail for years and finally thinking I have the time in my life to build a layout. Looking for information and ran across a post response of yours on OGR forum. Thank you

Chuck

We enjoyed your site...many great ideas and help. I am in the process of writing a reader-friendly blog about my husband's 2nd love....model trains.
